Navajo National Monument is located within the northwest portion of the Navajo Nation territory in northern Arizona, which was established to preserve three well-preserved cliff dwellings of the Ancestral Puebloan people: Keet Seel, Betatakin, and Inscription House. For centuries, the Hopi, San Juan Southern Paiute, Zuni, and Navajo people have inhabited the canyons. Springs fed into farmlands on the canyon floor and homes were built in the natural sandstone alcoves. The cliff dwellings of Betatakin, Keet Seel, and Inscription House were last physically occupied around 1300 AD but the villages have a spiritual presence that can still be felt today. Betatakin gets its name from the ledges of the alcove that all the rooms are constructed on. You might also hear it referred to as 'Ledge House' or 'House Built on a Ledge'. Betatakin is one of the best preserved Anasazi cliff dwellings that can be found anywhere in the southwestern United States. Anderson Design Group has hand-illustrated this vintage American National Park travel poster in the WPA style made famous in the early 1900s. It is available as a print, canvas, metal sign, postcard or note card.
